Yoga for Scoliosis & Sensing the Bones

  • Living Yoga 1776 South Jackson Street Suite 810 Denver, CO, 80210 United States (map)

Living Yoga welcomes back Deborah Wolk, from NYC, via a Live Stream weekend workshop! Deborah, C-IAYT, has been teaching and working with students with back issues, scoliosis, and other injuries for over 17 years. Her yoga practice working with her own scoliosis informs the work she does to help others. Learn more about Deborah by visiting her website www.dwolkyoga.com.

Yoga for Scoliosis – Saturday 11/7/2020 – 12–2:30pm

Deborah will introduce participants to the structure of the spine, the anatomy of scoliosis, and how it affects oneʼs physiology and health. Yoga asanas and principles of sequencing will be practiced and modified for different curvatures and pain issues.

Participants will learn how to develop a yoga practice that specifically addresses their own patterns and needs using awareness and alignment.

What’s included:
• Defining scoliosis and asymmetry through spinal anatomy
• Understanding and “seeing” lateral asymmetry and rotation
• How scoliosis affects spatial and balance issues
• How scoliosis affects the nervous system and can create joint issues and pain
• Asana to realign and connect with the limbs.
• Asana and breath techniques to create awareness, relieve pain, balance the nervous system, and possibly stabilize the curves themselves.

Sensing the Bones – Sunday 11/8/2020 – 12:00–2:30pm

Often described as a bone condition—scoliosis is seen as structural asymmetry and progressive. But what is bone? Science is now discovering that bone has many more functions than we thought and this shines new light on what scoliosis is. Transform your practice by sensing your bones as part of your fluid, nervous and endocrine systems. Learn to touch bone in a way that discriminates between muscle, fascia, and skin. See how bones fit together and sense how your scoliosis deviates from that so you can create better alignment in your joints.Much of the info for Sunday will build on Saturday so attending the full weekend is recommended!!
